Games that I bought in 2023 and didn’t play. Yet.

First off, I’ve probably bought some bundles, but those won’t be listed here because that would feel like cheating, and no-one likes a cheater.

Ryuutama

First off, this game is gorgeous. The quality of the book is just amazing, thick pages, colorful art, and just the right size. I like a book that feels right. A japanese rpg, centered around a journey, or multiple journeys, and the troubles that face the travellers. On their way, they have help from the GM’s dragon character, who has different abilities based on it’s colour. Combat seems to be jrpg-ish, simple and quick. Verdict: Want to run

Fabula Ultima

A TTJRPG made by italians. Obviously a labour of love, and something I got while waiting for the FFXIV RPG release. I expected a big stocky book when I bought this, but got a sturdy soft cover book, with glossy pages. The pages were a bit too glossy for my liking, but otherwise the book is fine. A lot of the art in the book is pixel art, which bugged me a bit, but not enough to turn me off the game. I really liked the build-your-own-world-part, with different standard Final Fantasy tropes to build on. Overall the rule system felt a lot like Ryuutama with some extra stuff bolted on to it. Verdict: Want to run, but not as much as Ryuutama.

MÖRK BORG

I think just about everyone has seen that cover, so not much sense posting it again. I got ORC BORG in 2022 which is just freaking amazing (no I haven’t run that one either why do you ask?) and thought I’d check out the original. It’s simple, it’s got an amazing layout, it’s lethal, and everything just drips of flavour. Verdict: Meh. I just don’t feel like I want to run it, it’s just so… Popular.

Vaesen

It’s Free League, so the production is good, the books feel good, the paper has a nice feel to it, the layout makes sense a lot of the time, and you usually know what you get. For some reason I just love this game, and have spent a lot of time not reading a single word of the rules or the modules I’ve picked up. Verdict: Want to read.

Books that I forgot because I’m moving and everything is in boxes: Probably a bunch. Books that I forgot because they are electronic and are hiding in my file system: A few.
